The HSE encourage construction projects across the U.K. to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their workers.

There were 43 workers fatally injured in 2015/16 and around ten times this died from ill health related to construction work. In addition to this there were 65,000 self-reported non-fatal injuries.

HSE are asking contactors, clients and designers to implement strategies to ensure this number does not increase.

In addition to issues such as falls from height, the campaign will look into control measures for dusts including respirable silica from building materials such as asbestos, wood dust and concrete.

HSE carried out over 2000 inspections since the campaign began and almost half of all companies investigated required improvement action.

Advice from HSE’s chief inspector of construction and director of construction division, Peter Baker is ‘don’t wait for an accident or a visit from an HSE inspector – learn from the success of others and act now.
