Director put workers at risk

A sole director has been threatened with prison after a joint operation uncovered a series of safety and health fraud offences.

Barry Birch was sentenced to 18 months in jail suspended for two years as well as receiving a disqualification from being a company director for five years after his firm, BBS improvements, were deemed as carrying out unsafe and unnecessary building work.

Combustible cladding ban should apply to all high-rises

Professionals within the chartered body for health and safety have said that a ban on combustible cladding in the UK should apply to all new high-rise buildings.

Housing secretary James Brokenshire announced that new high-rise residential buildings, hospitals, cares homes and student accommodation will be covered by the ban.

HSE launch second phase of construction inspection campaign.

The HSE encourage construction projects across the U.K. to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their workers.

There were 43 workers fatally injured in 2015/16 and around ten times this died from ill health related to construction work. In addition to this there were 65,000 self-reported non-fatal injuries.
